  • Attend any meetings or courses the Company ask of you to improve and further your knowledge and skill

Responsibilities Include:

Successful applicants will have the following skills:

  • Will ideally have a safety inspections certificate or willingness to complete in the future
  • Valid Class One licence (for road testing) or equivalent

Previous Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of 4 years verifiable experience

Other Skills

Ready to apply….do you have the following skill-set:

  • Minimum of 5 years post apprenticeship experience in a Mercedes retail dealership
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical and performance problems
  • Exposure to computer aided diagnostics and capability of performing quality diagnostics to exceed customer’s expectations
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to liaise with service advisors on required repairs and assist them in developing an effective customer consultation
  • Be able to document the repair of the vehicle on the repair order, verify proper parts and general clean-up of workshop
  • Mechanics with the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van manufacturers diagnostic training is a definite plus

Skills and Qualifications:

Qualified candidates should have the following skill set:

  • Qualified as a Diesel Mechanic with experience working with any of the following: Volvo, CAT, JCB, Komatsu, Hitachi, Detroit, Allison, Perkins, Terex
  • Ability to perform mechanical service and repair work assigned and to satisfy customers by performing work to a high level of quality in an efficient manner
  • To carry out and/or oversee repairs to other vehicles or equipment as directed by the Manager
  • Promote and maintain TransDiesel’s commitment to continually improve its performance in health and safety management in a positive manner.
  • Comply with Company’s vision of eliminating accidents and unsafe practices and report any unsafe conditions or activities, dangerous occurrences or injury in the workplace
  • To test drive, diagnose, maintain and repair all equipment in a professional and efficient way, either in the workshop or in the field as required
  • Maintain continuing good relationships with customers and potential customers within the Region
  • Actively work to ensure excellent daily communication with the workshop and parts department to ensure an efficient and effective service to customers in the designated area
  • To work on a rostered emergency breakdown call out service
  • Tag all warranty parts with the correct information
  • To keep the work environment clean and safe, this includes the service vehicle and when applicable any TransDiesel workshop
  • Ensure any workshop tools and equipment is returned in good condition and to the appropriate place
  • To supervise and assist unqualified people and trainee technicians when/if required
  • Ensure that all or any complaints received from the market are acted upon promptly and are referred through the correct channels for action
  • Advise the Manager and/or customer if equipment requires more repair work than estimated
  • Clean, label and submit warranty parts for storage
  • Complete all paper work as directed
  • Ensure time cards are completed daily showing the correct job number
  • Record stocks, oils and other material used against a job number
  • Undertake and carry out any other duties or tasks as requested by the Manager for which you are trained or instructed or for which training will be given
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Display a positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • A team player and prepared to take on extra duties and responsibilities as required
  • Show initiative, follow instructions accurately and seek assistance as required
  • Be precise and correct in approach to tasks, with an eye for detail.

Main Duties and Tasks:

• discuss problems with car drivers or vehicle operators to discover faults, listen to engines, fit and operate special test equipment and test drive vehicles to ascertain faults,
• identify problems, determine relationship between cause and effect, and examine information from different sources to determine best course of action,
• complete vehicle details on requisition order – kilometres, engine number, registration number, etc…
• repair or replace worn and faulty parts by removing assemblies such as engines, transmissions, differentials or steering gear; dismantle them and check parts, referring to manuals as necessary
• reassemble, test, clean and adjust repaired or replaced parts or assemblies, use various instruments to make sure they are working properly and put them back into the vehicle
• tune engines using special electronic equipment and make fine adjustments, e.g. to carburettors/electronic fuel injection for smoother running
• carry out minor body repairs and minor trim repairs

• inspect vehicles for roadworthiness and/or list the work required before a certificate can be issued,
• maintains the appearance and presentation of service area as well as ensures tools and equipment are clean and tidy at all times,

• follow hazardous waste regulations and occupational health and safety practices.
